Remove the flange nuts (A), then remove the backing plate (B)
with the parking brake shoe assembly. To prevent damage to the backing
plate with the parking brake shoes assembly and parking brake cable, use
a short piece of wire to hang the backing plate from the undercarriage.
Do not twist the parking brake cable excessively.
Remove the wheel speed sensor (A) and the brake hose bracket (B)
from the knuckle (C). Do not disconnect the wheel speed sensor
connector.
Position a floor jack under lower arm B. Raise the floor jack until the suspension begins to compress.
Remove the lock pin (A) from the upper arm ball joint, then remove the castle nut (C).
NOTE: During installation, install the lock pin as shown after tightening the new castle nut.
Disconnect the upper arm ball joint from the knuckle using the ball joint thread protector and the ball joint remover.
NOTE: Be careful not to damage the ball joint boot when installing the remover.
Remove the damper lower flange nut (A) and the washer (B) from the bottom of damper.
NOTE: During installation, install a new damper lower flange nut.
Remove the wire guide rubbers (B) from lower arm A. Do not disconnect the wheel speed sensor connector.
Remove the self-locking nut (B), the washer (C), and the flange bolt (D), then remove lower arm A.
NOTE: Use a new self-locking nut and the new flange bolt, during reassembly.
Remove the flange nuts (A) from the trailing arm (B).
NOTE: Use new flange nuts during reassembly.
Remove the flange bolt (A), then remove the knuckle (B).
NOTE: Use the new flange bolt during reassembly.
Install the knuckle in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
First install all of the components, and lightly tighten the
bolts and the nuts, then raise the suspension to load it with the
vehicle's weight before fully tightening to the specified torque.
Be careful not to damage the ball joint boot when connecting the knuckle.
Before connecting the ball joint, degrease the threaded section
and the tapered portion of the ball joint pin, the ball joint connecting
hole, and the threaded section and the mating surfaces of the castle
nut.
Torque the castle nut to the lower torque specification, then
tighten it only far enough to align the slot with the ball joint pin
hole. Do not align the castle nut by loosening it.
Before installing the wheel, clean the mating surfaces between the brake disc/drum and the inside of the wheel.
Check the wheel alignment, and adjust it if necessary.
