NOTE: All connector views are wire side of female terminals.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0) or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

  1. Remove the left rear side trim.

  1. Disconnect power tailgate control unit connectors A (5P), B (20P), and C (14P) in the order shown.

  3. Inspect all the connector and socket terminals to be sure they are all making good contact.

    • If the terminals are bent, loose or corroded, repair them as necessary, and recheck the system.

    • If the terminals look OK, go to step 5.

  4. Reconnect all connectors to the power tailgate control unit, and do the following input tests:

    • If the test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system.

    • If the input test proves OK, the control unit must be faulty; replace it.

    Measure the voltage to ground:
    There should be battery voltage.

    • Blown No. E14 (40 A) fuse in the rear fuse box

    • An open or high resistance in the wire

    Under all conditions

    Measure the voltage to ground:
    There should be battery voltage.

    • Blown No. E1 (20 A) fuse in the rear fuse box

    • An open or high resistance in the wire

    B20

    GRN

    Under all conditions

    Measure the voltage to ground:
    There should be battery voltage.

    • Blown No. B16 (10 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box

    • Faulty driver's under-dash fuse/relay box

    • Faulty rear fuse box

    • An open or high resistance in the wire

    LT GRN

    Ignition switch ON (II) or power mode ON

    Measure the voltage to ground:
    There should be battery voltage.

    • Blown No. E13 (7.5 A) fuse in the rear fuse box

    • An open or high resistance in the wire

    A2

    BLK

    In all ignition switch positions or all power modes

    Measure the voltage to ground:
    There should be less than 0.2 V.

    • Poor ground (G801)

    • An open or high resistance in the ground wire

    Shift lever in P position

    Measure the voltage to ground: There should be less than 0.2 V.

    • Faulty or improperly adjusted transmission range switch

    • Poor ground (G101) or an open in the ground wire

    • An open or high resistance in the wire

    Shift lever in any other position than P

    Measure the voltage to ground:
    There should be about 5 V.

    • Faulty or improperly adjusted transmission range switch

    • A short to ground in the wire

  5. Reset the power tailgate control unit.
