Honda Odyssey Service Manual: Headlight Leveling System

Honda Odyssey Service Manual / Body / Body Electrical / Lighting / Headlight Leveling System

The headlights leveling system is composed of the headlight leveling control unit, the front and rear suspension stroke sensors, and the left and right headlight leveling motors.

The system uses the front and rear suspension stroke sensors to monitor the vehicle ride height. The ride height is monitored every 1 second while the engine is running and when the engine is off with the ignition switch in the ON (II) position.

If the control unit detects a change in ride height, the control unit sends a signal to the headlight leveling motors to adjust the headlight's vertical position.

Suspension Stroke Sensors

The headlight leveling system uses the front and rear suspension stroke sensor signals. The front suspension stroke sensor is located in the right front suspension area. A short link connects the sensor arm to the lower arm. The rear suspension stroke sensor is located in the right rear suspension area. A short link connects the sensor arm to the lower arm.

The sensors detect the vehicle ride height and sends a voltage signal (about 0.5-4.5 V) to the headlight leveling control unit.

Headlight Leveling Control Unit

The headlight leveling control unit is located under the driver's side of the dashboard. The headlight leveling control unit uses the voltage signals sent from the front and the rear suspension stroke sensors to determine the voltage signal (about 2-11 V) send to the left and right leveling motors to adjust the headlight's vertical position.
